Wearing and Caring for Your Sterling Silver Bangles

Sterling Silver Bangles

A bangle or a cuff is the kind of piece you put on in the morning and then mostly forget about, which is exactly how I like it. Solid sterling silver, made to be lived in rather than saved for occasions. Here is how to get yours on and off with ease, and how to keep it looking its best for years.

How to wear your bangle

Round with a clean flat top, this bangle takes the same shape your hand makes when you bring your thumb and little finger together. The shape does the work for you.

Putting it on:

  • Hold the bangle with the flat side facing down, under your palm
  • Slide it over your hand, letting the flat side follow the shape of your hand for an easy fit
  • Once it is on your wrist, rotate the bangle so the flat side faces up
  • It sits snug and secure, close to the wrist rather than bulky

To take it off, turn the flat side back down under your palm and slide it off.

Caring for your bangle

Solid sterling silver wears beautifully and asks for very little. A soft polishing cloth brings back the shine if it dulls, and a gentle polish lifts any sterling silver tarnish that comes from the silver reacting to air and skin. With the satin finish, and you can refresh it with a light rub from a Scotch Brite pad in straight strokes along the surface. Take it off before swimming or showering and it stays looking its best for years.

The fit and feel

The shape follows your hand when your thumb and little finger meet, so it goes on easily and sits close once rotated. The flat top draws a crisp, clean line across the wrist, modern and quiet with no bulk to it. It rests light and secure, the kind of piece you put on in the morning and stop noticing.

How to wear your cuff

My cuffs are open at the back, so they slide on from the side of your wrist rather than over your hand. Once you have the knack it takes a second.

Putting it on:

  • Turn your wrist and find the narrowest part, just below your wrist bone on the side
  • Rest the opening of the cuff against that spot
  • Gently flip it on, letting the cuff wrap around your wrist and settle into place

To take it off, ease it back off from the same narrow point on the side of your wrist.

Putting them away

When a piece is off your wrist, the kindest place for it is in a soft pouch or a lined box keeps it from rubbing against other pieces, and away from the bathroom, where the humidity speeds tarnish along.

Each one is handmade here in Sydney in small batches, so the piece on your wrist was shaped by hand to be worn for years.
