Small things, made properly

Studs are often the earrings we reach for without thinking. They go in first thing and stay in all day, so they end up being the pair you wear more than any other.

That's why I think they deserve as much care as a statement piece.

I make every pair by hand in my Sydney studio, in solid sterling silver or gold, and finish each one myself. Many have a soft satin finish that catches the light quietly. Where there's room, I stamp them with my maker's mark and the 925 sterling silver mark.

Because they're solid all the way through, there's no plating to wear off and nothing cheaper hiding underneath. That matters if your ears are fussy about what goes in them.

They go with everything, they're an easy gift, and once they're in you'll forget about them. After more than 25 years at the bench,
a good pair of studs is still a staple in my own jewellery box.

Questions I often get asked

What backs do your studs have?

My studs have a post that pushes through the ear and a butterfly back that holds them securely in place. They're easy to put in and stay put all day.

Are sterling silver studs good for sensitive ears?

My studs are solid sterling silver or solid gold, never plated, so there's no coating to wear through to a cheaper base metal. Many people who react to costume jewellery wear solid silver and gold comfortably.

Do you make gold studs?

Yes. Some of my studs are made in solid gold. My Moon Dip studs have a solid sterling silver base with a thick layer of gold fused to the silver. It's bonded to the metal, not plated, so it won't wear away like a plated finish. Each product page shows which metals that pair comes in.

Will my silver studs tarnish?

Sterling silver naturally darkens over time, especially when it's left out in the open air. Wearing them often actually helps. A quick rub with a silver cloth brings the shine back, and keeping them in their pouch between wears slows tarnish down.

Do studs make a good gift?

They're one of the easiest pieces to give. Studs suit almost everyone, there's no sizing to worry about, and they're something people wear every day. Every pair comes in one of my jewellery pouches, ready to give.

Where are your studs made?

I make every pair by hand in my studio in Sydney's inner west.
